Activ is one of WA’s leading community benefit organisations and has been providing services and support to people with disability since 1951. Activ provide homes to 250 people, assist another 82 in their own homes and deliver respite care to 268 people with disabilities. EDGE Employment Solutions Inc. is one of the largest, longest established and most successful employment agencies for people with disabilities in Australia. Established in 1984, EDGE is a non-profit, non-government employment agency with an annual operating budget of $3,000,000 and a complement of 60 specialist staff. Good Samaritan Industries and its employment arm Options Employment exist to provide employment choices for people with disabilities. Since its inception in 1958, GSI and Options have helped over 5000 people with disabilities to find meaningful employment and have grown into a large orgnaisation of over 70 staff operating in both the Australian Disability Enterprise (our iconic warehouse in Canning Vale and 25 Good Sammy shops) and Open Employment offices at Cannington and Mirrabooka. The Centre for Cerebral Palsy has since 1951, forged an enviable reputation as one of the leading disability service providers in our state, with significant leadership also at a national level. Over time, our ability to adapt in response to the changing needs of people with CP has ensured we remain at the forefront of service excellence. Workability has been a leading disability employment services organisation in the Perth Metro and Peel regions since 1988. They are an innovative charitable organisation that supports people with disabilities, mental health problems and those who are marginalised within the community.  Workability utilises a unique "whole of life" approach to helping its jobseekers and as part of that offers comprehensive vocational and personal development programs to assist individuals achieve work, greater independence, community participation and life satisfaction. These include vocational and arts based training, social clubs and events, counselling services and a team of skilled volunteer mentors who help support our jobseekers. Career Contact Inc is a not for profit Disability Employment Service funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, and is a consortium member of Ostara Australia.  Career Contact Inc has been enabling employment in the Goldfields region since January 1989. Career Contact provides the following services: 

Employment Support Service (ESS) is a service is for job seekers and workers with permanent disability with an assessed need for more long-term , ongoing support in the workplace. Disability Management Service (DMS) is a service is for job seekers and workers with disability, injury or health condition who require the assistance of a disability employment service but are not expected to need long-term support in the workplace.

Rocky Bay is a leading West Australian not for profit organisation which has been supporting people with disabilities since 1938 to optimise their quality of life.

In the employment arena, Rocky Bay supports the individual to seek, obtain and maintain employment which meets their individual work choices. Incorporated in 1992, BIZLINK is a not-for-profit Disability Employment Service (DES) that specialises in Employment Support Services (ESS) to assist people with a disability to secure and maintain careers in open employment. BIZLINK is funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

BIZLINK accepts referrals from a variety of sources including: Centrelink, direct referral, schools, community services and other employment services. Most jobseekers will require a current Job Capacity Assessment (JCA) to determine their eligibility and on occasion DEEWR may request that a new JCA be completed.

DEAFinite’s services are designed and delivered to provide its clients with access to vocational skill development by staff who facilitate or provide such training. Skills development is aimed at equipping clients with the skills to secure and maintain employment, and to ultimately realise their employment potential. Strategies that facilitate the skill development process include:

  • Coordination and/or provision of Auslan interpreting support, or note-taking support at TAFE, Universities and other training organisations.
  • Coordination and/or provision of in-house and external training.
  • Provision of on-the-job interpreting support.

DEAFinite is committed to supporting clients to participate in social activities to maximise their opportunities to attain valued status in their workplaces and the wider community. To this end, DEAFinite offers interpreting support for clients to participate in social organising committees and work related social functions, both during and after work hours.

DEAFinite strongly promotes education in the employment sector to raise awareness of the cultural and linguistic identity of deaf jobseekers. DEAFinite has developed two specific training packages to facilitate this objective:

  • Deafness Awareness Training.
  • Sign Language in the Workplace Program.

Training is offered free of charge to all employers, prospective employers and some industry groups. The Sign Language in the Workplace Program is tailored to the terminology and culture of specific workplaces to positively influence integration and acceptance of the Deaf employee.
